The most important safety topics on this list are in red, because these are the things that every adult should prevent at all costs. But the most important thing you can do is to read the warnings on labels.

A recent study in Science finds that the number of chemicals in the food supply has risen over the past 100 years (1/10/04). The study was conducted by Harvard University. This is one of the study's conclusion:

The same is true for water and air.

While some people are more aware of the damage that exposure to chemicals can cause, most of us don't realize that air is a major source of toxins. For example, we may walk across our roof and think that there is no risk. But there is a huge risk.

The EPA estimates that there were more than 6,500 chemicals in private commercial air in the U.S. between 1975 and 2003. This is double what was found for just private commercial water in 2000.

With this type of research, it is clear that we should be worried. We have a large amount of chemicals in our bodies, and a large amount of toxins spread through the air. We need to take action.
